Some of the people from my morning class doing a bit of sparring in the ring. Slowly but surely I am getting better at this and maximizing the lighting when composing my shots. Makes it much easier to edit files after the fact. (That said, it does help when they are moving at half-speed lol. And while it may look like he is beating up on her in some of the photos... hopefully the smiles at the end will let you know it was all in good fun.)
Jesus Portilla: Master of the Pads and the Ring
Jesus is one of my favorite trainers at the gym both to work with and to photograph. He has this poise about him that is commanding and comforting and you can tell that he is really trying to help you improve your skills. When I saw him working with this guy (sorry I don't know his name) in the ring, I took it as an opportunity to try and capture that and also experiment with the lighting to get the most out of the photos. The impetus for this little photo session was primarily that I wanted to try and get better at capturing and framing certain kinds of shots. More specifically, trying to capture someone working the speed bag and jumping rope. I have experimented a bit with this in the past with regards to framing and different shutter speeds, but when you do that you always have to w
Lil Rod, Big Punch
In an attempt to improve my photography at the gym in relation to some of the enviromental challenges that it represents I have been experimenting around with different ways of framing shots and using the limited lighting that is available. This is one such experiment in that vein, and overall I am happy with the outcome. Thanks to my man Lil Rod for taking the time to serve as my subject for these shots.
Short on Age, Big on Skill
A quick collection of shots showing boxing Yoda (Bryan J proudly rocking a PD Gladiators shirt I might add) presiding over his court of young Padawan learners. I think that first shot in the set is my new favorite. Just really nice framing and I got extremely lucky catching the kid's hand right as it passes in front of the camera for a hook.
