So this was a fun little experiment. I was able to capture T and some of her friends were trying to do flips on the rings, and I have to say that I love how some of these images came out. I think they really capture the drama of the moment as well as how incredibly beautiful and amazing some of the women at my gym are. That said, I think that is more a credit to the lighting than to me as a photographer. With the sun coming in through the window... well it just makes for some really nice silhouettes.
In looking back over these photos I will say it is truly amazing how flexible and skilled some of the women featured in these photos are. I would just fall flat on my face if I tried to do what they are doing in these photos. Really a cool demonstration of their body control since this is not something that they practice. From a photographers perspective it is a challenge to capture that.
Part of my goal with taking photos of people at the gym is to show them at their best in a way that compliments their natural qualities
The other challenge comes in picking what photos to use when highlighting the action. While all of the women involved showed incredible grace and poise, there are definitely some more awkward moments when they are in the process of doing a flip and some of the shots are not the most complimentary with regards to how their bodies are positioned. Part of my goal with taking photos of people at the gym is to show them at their best in a way that compliments their natural qualities, so when it came to capturing something like this: I try to be incredibly selective in terms of what photos I share.
I just hope that I managed to do the women featured in these images justice and that they are or would be happy with the photos that I chose to post of them.
